Keeping it in the family

Suffolk Water Park hosted a 24-hour junior and adults pairs competition earlier this month in association with Nash Tackle in an attempt to get more youngsters out on the bank during the summer holidays.

The match was held on the day-ticket venue’s Traditional Lake and was won by Paul Ayling and his 10-year-old son Mickey, who caught six fish for a combined weight of 56¼lb. Paul and Mickey won a Nash goody bag and a 24-hour session for two people. The biggest fish prize, also a Nash goody bag and a 24-hour session for two people, went to Kieran MacDonald and his nine-year-old nephew Kenzie Richardson thanks to their capture of a 16½-pounder.

SWP owner Stuart Mill said: “Suffolk Water Park wants to encourage the next generation into fishing and what better way is there to be guided by mentors and those who already have experience in angling. The event was designed to be fun and informative. I think we achieved that, as everyone enjoyed themselves and expressed they would love to take part in another event such as this one, so watch this space!”
